Frequently asked questions

The newsletter, your privacy, billing, and the rest — in plain terms.

Newsletter & privacy

No. We never sell, rent, or share your email address. We use it only to send the quarterly newsletter.

About once a quarter.

No — the newsletter is open to anyone.

There's a one-click unsubscribe link in every email.

Subscriptions & billing

Yes. Apprentice is free, includes 30 credits a month, and doesn't require a card.

Yes. You can change plans from the pricing page, and cancel or resume from your dashboard, at any time. If you cancel, you keep your current tier through the end of the period you've already paid for.

Paid tiers renew monthly. You can cancel before the next renewal to avoid being charged again.

No. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.

No — all credit purchases are final. That covers credits you've already spent and unused ones alike, whether they came with your plan or you bought them as a top-up. If you cancel a subscription you keep your tier through the end of the period you've already paid for, rather than getting a prorated refund for the unused days. One thing that isn't a refund: if a tool fails because something broke on our end, the credits it consumed go straight back to your balance automatically — we don't charge you for work we didn't deliver.

Upgrades happen right away. You're charged the new price, your billing date resets to today, and your new monthly credits are added to whatever you had left — your remaining credits carry over. Downgrades wait until your next renewal date — you keep your current tier and its credits through the time you've already paid for, then move down. There's no proration either way.

They stay put. Top-up credits aren't refundable, but they also never expire — they survive plan changes, monthly resets, and cancellation. You bought them, they're yours until you spend them.

Your monthly credits go back to the free allowance — 30 a month — at the point the subscription ends. They don't carry over, because a lapsed plan shouldn't leave a bankable claim behind. Top-up credits are different: those you bought outright, and they stay in your account whatever happens to your plan.

Downgrades take effect at your next renewal, and that renewal works like any other: you get the new plan's monthly credits plus whatever you had left, up to one extra month of the new plan. So moving from Guide to Tyer with 2,500 credits left means 300 for the month plus 300 carried — 600, not 2,800. You keep your old tier and its credits until the renewal date, so nothing changes before then. Top-up credits aren't affected.

Yes, up to one extra month. Unused monthly credits carry into your next month on top of that month's allowance, so your balance can reach twice your plan's monthly credits — a quiet month at the vise isn't wasted. Anything above that ceiling isn't carried. Upgrading is more generous still: move up a plan and your remaining balance is added to the new plan's credits. Top-up credits are different again — those never expire at all, and they stay in your account until you spend them.

Credits & tools

Credits are how tool usage is measured. Different tools cost different amounts of credits; your plan includes a monthly allowance.

Grab a top-up pack — 100 or 500 credits, one-time, with no change to your subscription. Top-up credits are spent only after your monthly credits are gone, and they don't expire. Or wait for your next monthly refill.

On a paid plan, on your renewal date — that month's credits are added to whatever you have left, up to twice your plan's monthly allowance. On the free plan, your 30 credits refill a month after they last reset, applied the next time you use a tool, so the date drifts with when you come back rather than following the calendar.

Account

Change plans from the pricing page; cancel or resume from your dashboard. Upgrades take effect immediately — you're charged the new price, your billing month restarts, and the new tier's credits are added on top of whatever you have left. Downgrades and cancellation take effect at your next renewal date, so you keep what you've paid for until then.

There's a Delete account option at the bottom of your dashboard. You'll be asked to type your email address to confirm, and then it happens straight away. That removes your account, your credit balance and history, anything you've generated with the tools, and your customer record with Stripe — which also cancels an active subscription. It's permanent, and any unused credits go with it — credit purchases are final, so spend them before you delete rather than after. If anything goes wrong, email scott@countryroadsfly.com and I'll finish it by hand. The newsletter is separate: it's tied to your email address rather than your account, so use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter if you want off that too.
