Gary LaFontaine's Emergent Sparkle Pupa, the centerpiece of his landmark caddis research. The Antron bubble overbody — chosen because Antron's tri-lobal fibers trap air and sparkle exactly like a gas-filled pupal sheath — plus a trailing Antron shuck and a small deer-hair wing capture the caddis at its most vulnerable moment.
1. Thread base — Attach brown thread and build a base to the bend.
2. Shuck — Tie in a sparse bunch of amber Antron at the bend, extending one hook-gap rearward.
3. Overbody prep — Tie in a generous bunch of Antron fibers at the bend, split half on the far side, half on the near side, both pointing rearward.
4. Underbody — Dub a rough hare's ear underbody from the bend to the 3/4 point.
5. Bubble — Pull the Antron loosely forward around BOTH sides and over the top, forming a translucent bubble around the underbody. Tie down at the 3/4 point — keep it puffy, not tight.
6. Wing — Tie in a small, sparse clump of deer hair over the bubble, tips to the bend.
7. Head — Dub a small dark brown head. Whip finish and cement.
