Lee Wulff's all-white hair-wing, and the classic answer to the White Fly (Ephoron) — the August dusk hatch that turns Appalachian and mid-Atlantic rivers white with duns. When the light is nearly gone and everything on the water is pale, the White Wulff is both imitation and beacon.
1. Thread base — Attach cream thread behind the eye and build a base to the bend.
2. Tail — Tie in a small bunch of white calf tail at the bend, one hook-shank long.
3. Wings — At the 2/3 point, tie in a bunch of white calf tail, tips forward. Lift, post, and divide into two upright wings.
4. Body — Dub a full cream-white body from the bend to behind the wings.
5. Hackle — Tie in a badger hackle behind the wings. Wind 4–5 turns behind and in front of the wings. Tie off.
6. Head — Build a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
