John Barr's BWO Emerger is a must-have for selective fish during blue-winged olive hatches. The pheasant tail abdomen and CDC wing profile match the transitional stage between nymph and dun perfectly.
1. Thread base — Attach olive thread to the hook and build a base to the bend.
2. Shuck — Tie in a small bunch of brown Z-Lon at the bend, extending one hook-gap rearward.
3. Rib — Tie in fine copper wire at the bend.
4. Abdomen — Tie in 4–5 pheasant tail fibers at the bend. Wind them forward as a twisted rope to the 2/3 point. Counter-wind copper wire and tie off.
5. Wing — At the 2/3 point, tie in a pair of dun CDC feathers upright, slightly splayed.
6. Thorax — Dub a small olive thorax on both sides of the CDC base.
7. Head — Build a tiny head. Whip finish and apply head cement away from the CDC.
