Lance Egan's competition-born Frenchie is a Pheasant Tail nymph with a hot spot thorax. The pink (or hot orange) dubbing creates a trigger point that consistently outperforms the unmodified original.
1. Bead — Thread a gold tungsten bead onto the jig hook and push it to the eye.
2. Thread base — Attach brown thread behind the bead and build a base to the bend.
3. Tail — Tie in 4–6 pheasant tail fibers at the bend.
4. Rib — Tie in fine copper wire at the bend.
5. Abdomen — Twist pheasant tail fibers into a rope and wind forward to the 2/3 point. Leave tips rearward for the wing case. Counter-wind copper wire and tie off.
6. Wing case — Fold a few extra pheasant tail fibers back over the abdomen and forward to form a shellback if desired.
7. Thorax (hot spot) — Dub a bright pink thorax from the 2/3 point up to behind the bead. Keep it compact but visible.
8. Head — Whip finish behind the bead. Apply head cement.
