A classic attractor streamer with a bright red-yellow-yellow bucktail wing that has been enticing trout, bass, and landlocked salmon for over 80 years. Simple to tie and surprisingly effective.
1. Thread base — Attach black thread behind the eye and build a base to the bend.
2. Body — Wrap silver tinsel from the bend to just behind the eye in smooth, touching turns. Tie off.
3. Underwing — Tie in a small bunch of yellow bucktail on top of the hook at the 2/3 point.
4. Middle wing — Tie in a slightly smaller bunch of red bucktail directly over the yellow.
5. Overwing — Tie in another bunch of yellow bucktail over the red, slightly longer than the first yellow layer. The combined wing should extend one hook-shank past the bend.
6. Head — Build a smooth, tapered head. Whip finish and apply head cement. Lacquer the head red for the classic look.
