Sylvester Nemes's soft hackle classic. The sparse partridge collar pulsates in the current suggesting legs or gills — trout can't resist it swung or dead-drifted through runs during caddis and mayfly hatches.
1. Thread base — Attach orange thread behind the eye and build a base to the bend.
2. Body — Dub a smooth, evenly tapered orange body from the bend to the 2/3 point. Keep it slim.
3. Hackle prep — Select a small partridge back feather. Stroke the fibers back along the stem so they stand perpendicular.
4. Hackle — Tie in the partridge feather by the tip at the 2/3 point. Wind 1–2 sparse turns as a collar. Stroke the fibers rearward and tie off with a few wraps to sweep them back.
5. Head — Build a small, neat head. Whip finish and apply head cement.
