A micro-zonker that fishes like a nymph and swims like a streamer. One strip of pine squirrel — finer and livelier than rabbit at small sizes — plus a bead, and you have the most dependable small leech going. Dead-drift it under an indicator, then let it swing.
1. Bead — Slide a gold bead to the eye of a nymph hook.
2. Thread base — Attach brown thread behind the bead and wrap to the bend.
3. Tail & body strip — Tie in the tip of a pine squirrel strip at the bend, leaving a half-shank of strip trailing as the tail.
4. Wrap — Palmer the strip forward in touching turns, stroking the fur back each wrap, to behind the bead. Tie off.
5. Finish — Whip finish behind the bead and cement. Natural, black, and rust are the essential colors.
