The classic Hare's Ear nymph with a pearl flashback wing case that catches light and triggers strikes. The subtle flash suggests the gas bubble of an emerging nymph — a small change that consistently out-fishes the standard version.
1. Thread base — Attach tan thread behind the eye (or behind a bead) and build a base to the bend.
2. Tail — Tie in a small pinch of hare's mask guard hairs at the bend.
3. Rib — Tie in fine gold tinsel at the bend.
4. Abdomen — Dub a slightly rough, tapered hare's ear abdomen from the bend to the midpoint.
5. Rib — Wind gold tinsel forward over the abdomen in evenly spaced turns. Tie off and trim.
6. Flashback wing case — Tie in a strip of pearl flashabou across the midpoint, flat on top of the hook. Let it extend rearward for now.
7. Thorax — Dub a heavier, shaggier hare's ear thorax from the midpoint to just behind the eye.
8. Wing case — Pull the pearl flashabou forward over the thorax and tie down behind the eye. Trim excess. Whip finish and apply head cement.
