The Goddard Caddis uses spun and clipped deer hair to create a tent-shaped body that is virtually unsinkable. Exceptional in fast, broken water where high flotation matters more than delicacy.
1. Thread base — Attach tan thread behind the eye and build a base to the midpoint.
2. Body — Spin 3–4 clumps of deer body hair along the rear 2/3 of the shank, packing each clump tightly. After all hair is spun, carefully trim it to a tent-caddis shape — narrow on top, full on the sides, flat on the bottom. Leave the tips of the last bunch facing rearward for a tail effect.
3. Hackle — Tie in a brown hackle at the 2/3 point. Wind 2–3 close turns. Tie off and trim.
4. Antennae (optional) — Tie in two brown hackle stems angling forward from behind the eye.
5. Head — Build a neat head behind the eye, whip finish and apply head cement.
