Southwestern Pennsylvania's gift to everyone who just wants to catch trout: a chartreuse chenille loop tail and a chartreuse chenille body. Inchworm, caddis larva, egg — the fish decide, and in Appalachian freestone water they decide fast. No apologies necessary.
1. Thread base — Attach thread and wrap to the bend.
2. Loop tail — Cut a length of chartreuse chenille. Double an inch of it into a small loop and tie the loop in at the bend, extending rearward.
3. Body — Wrap the remaining chenille forward in touching turns to behind the eye. Tie off.
4. Finish — Whip finish and cement. Weight with a few wraps of lead or a bead when you need it down.
