Hans van Klinken's parachute emerger changed how anglers think about surface presentation. The curved hook suspends the abdomen below the film while the poly post and parachute hackle keep it floating. Deadly during caddis and mayfly emergences.
1. Thread base — Attach brown thread to the curved hook and build a base to the bend of the curved section.
2. Post — At the 1/3 point (front of the curve), tie in a white poly yarn post. Build tight wraps around the base to keep it vertical.
3. Abdomen — Dub a slim, tapered tan or hare's ear abdomen from the bend of the curve up to the post base. This portion hangs below the film.
4. Hackle — Tie in a ginger hackle at the base of the post. Wind 4–6 parachute turns descending around the post. Tie off at the base.
5. Thorax — Dub a small, slightly fuller brown thorax between the post and the eye, on both sides of the hackle.
6. Head — Build a small head in front of the post. Whip finish and apply head cement. Trim post to hook-gap height.
