The March Brown is a large, sporadic hatch but when it's on, trout eat aggressively. The parachute style is easier to see on riffled freestone water than the traditional Catskill tie.
1. Thread base — Attach brown thread behind the eye and build a base to the bend.
2. Post — At the 1/3 point, tie in a small bunch of white calf body hair upright. Build tight base wraps.
3. Tail — Tie in a sparse bunch of brown hackle fibers at the bend, one hook-gap in length.
4. Body — Dub a rough, slightly tapered hare's ear body from the bend to the post base. A buggy, segmented appearance is correct.
5. Hackle — Tie in a brown hackle at the base of the post. Wind 4–5 parachute turns. Tie off at the base.
6. Head — Build a small head in front of the post. Whip finish and apply head cement.
