Freshwater shrimp are the protein base of every weed-rich tailwater and spring creek, grazed on all year with no hatch required. A curved shaggy body under a clear shellback, ribbed into segments — tie it olive and tan for every day, orange for the dead-drifting 'cooked' scuds below dams.
1. Thread base — Attach tan thread on the curved hook and build a base to the bend.
2. Shellback — Tie in a strip of clear Thin Skin at the bend, rearward.
3. Rib — Tie in copper wire at the bend.
4. Body — Dub a full, shaggy scud-dubbing body around the bend to behind the eye.
5. Shellback & rib — Pull the Thin Skin over the top and tie down. Wind the wire forward in even segments over it. Tie off both.
6. Finish — Whip finish and cement. Pick the dubbing out along the underside — the picked fibers are the legs.
