A strand of mop chenille on a hook. Purists grimace, fish do not: the fat, translucent finger reads as a crane fly larva or a grub, and it has won enough competitions that nobody laughs anymore. Chartreuse and cream are the standards; fish it like any heavy nymph.
1. Bead — Slide a gold tungsten bead to the eye.
2. Thread base — Attach thread behind the bead and wrap to the bend.
3. Mop — Pull one finger from a mop/vernille chenille pad. Tie it in at the bend so most of its length extends rearward, and bind the tie-down securely along the rear third.
4. Collar — Dub a short collar of peacock-toned ice dubbing behind the bead.
5. Finish — Whip finish and cement the wraps well — the mop twists if under-secured.
