Controversial in some circles and devastating in all of them, the Squirmy Wormy uses a silicone worm material that moves seductively in current. Particularly effective in high, off-color water after rain when actual aquatic worms wash into the stream.
1. Bead (optional) — Thread a gold tungsten bead onto the hook and push to the eye.
2. Thread base — Attach red thread just behind the bead (or behind the eye) and build a base over the middle 1/3 of the shank only.
3. Worm body — Cut a 3–4 inch length of squirmy worm material. Center it on the hook and secure with several very tight thread wraps at the midpoint of the shank. The worm should extend equally from each end.
4. Lock — Criss-cross the thread several times over the worm to prevent rotation. A drop of UV resin over the wraps adds durability.
5. Head — Whip finish over the wraps. Apply head cement or UV resin to the thread.
