The Chernobyl Ant is an indestructible foam attractor that works as a hopper, stonefly, or large ant imitation. Its flat profile, rubber legs, and high-visibility indicator strip make it the ultimate dry-dropper indicator fly.
1. Thread base — Attach black thread behind the eye and build a base to the bend.
2. Bottom foam — Cut a strip of black foam to hook-gap width. Tie in at the bend and again just behind the eye to create the bottom of the body.
3. Rear legs — Tie in one pair of rubber legs on each side between the two foam tie-down points.
4. Top foam — Tie in a second black foam strip on top of the hook at the bend. Bring forward over the legs and tie down behind the eye. Pull the foam back slightly to create a humped body profile.
5. Indicator — Tie in a short strip of yellow or orange foam on top at the midpoint as a visibility indicator.
6. Front legs — Tie in a second pair of rubber legs just behind the eye, angling forward.
7. Head — Trim the foam extending past the eye. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and apply head cement.
