Dorsey's emerging-midge companion to the Mercury Midge: dark brown body ribbed with white thread, a rusty dubbed thorax, and a stub of bright white wing material breaking the profile — the pupa at the moment of eclosion. A first-string dropper on any winter tailwater rig.
1. Thread base — Attach dark brown thread on a curved hook and wrap to the bend. Tie in a length of white thread as the rib.
2. Body — Build a slim brown thread body two-thirds up the shank. Rib with open turns of the white thread. Tie off.
3. Wing — Tie in a short stub of bright white synthetic yarn over the eye, angled back, clipped just past the thorax.
4. Thorax — Dub a small band of rusty brown over the wing butts.
5. Finish — Whip finish and cement sparingly.
